Deadly Hepatitis B Outbreak
A state panel reccomended a $16,000 fine Thursday for an assisted living middle where 6 died from Hepatitis B. The Glen Care facility in Mount Olive was the middle in the outbreak that hospitalized 8 clients. Several those who realized the hepatitis victims mentioned the fine is not strong enough.
The North Carolina Penalty Review Committee unanimously proposed the fine to Barbara Ryan, chief in the state’s adult care licensure section.
Investigators with the Division of Public Health concluded five medical technicians at Glen Care reused diabetes pens, gadgets utilised to check out blood-glucose ranges. Seven in the 8 people who contracted Hepatitis B ended up diabetes paitients.
